Setting Sun

This is the setting sun over the mountains here. Reno is currently totally covered with smoke from more than 800 separate fires from Northern Nevada and California. This was taken on the first day that all of the smoke was visible, thus allowing me to capture these colors. We are currently on day four or five and the setting sun is totally masked by smoke now...

Beautiful pictures! I visited Reno/Lake Tahoe twice in the past year, got a few good pictures myself.

The colors are nice, but not quite near what I have seen them link in the past atop Geiger Grade from the old house.
Try taking a drive up the grade, past Castle Rock, and head for the lookout further up the road. Stop there right before sunset to get setup, then snap your photos then and there. Being higher up will make sunset "later", and the light will be filtered through more of the clouds, as the sun will be at a lower point on the true horizon, not the horizon made up of hill/mountaintops.
Give it a shot-- I remember seeing some killer sunsets from the old place.
